About the program
-
Job programs try to fit your adult into an existing workplace, and the workplace usually wins. Here there is no workplace to fit into.
We build one around your adult instead: their schedule, their environment, their strengths. They are not the new hire hoping to last. They are the owner.
-
Good. Most students start there. The first two months are about finding the right idea together, built on what you love and what you are good at.
-
Both, genuinely. Some students sell art, stickers, or handmade goods from home. Others build technical service businesses: web development, SEO, AI systems, professional photography, media production, social media content. One student signed two corporate clients before his agency officially opened. The program meets each person at their level, and there is no ceiling.
-
Two to three in-person sessions each week, two hours each, at a place you choose: home, a quiet coffee shop, a private co-working room, or outdoors. Sam travels to you. Video sessions are available when travel is not practical.
-
Never. Every session is Sam and one student. No cohorts, no workshops, no presentations.
-
We reschedule. No penalties, no guilt. Consistency over months matters more than perfect attendance.
-
We stop, reassess, and rebuild around the new direction. Getting the direction right matters more than the calendar.
-
No. Sam is a business coach and mentor, not a licensed therapist. The work is practical and skills-based. With consent, Sam happily coordinates with any therapist or behavioral provider the student already has.
-
Not to work with Sam privately. ADHD, learning differences, anxiety, or simply never fitting the traditional job world are all welcome here. To use SDP funding, the adult needs to already be a Regional Center client.
-
A live website, active social accounts, real photos and content, an officially registered business, a customer agreement, invoicing and scheduling tools, and at least one real sale. In short: a business of their own.
About funding
-
Three steps.
First, add "Supported Self-Employment Coaching" as a goal in the IPP.
Second, Sam signs a service agreement with your Financial Management Service.
Third, Sam invoices the FMS after each completed session. -
Sam discusses the rate openly at the discovery meeting, and your FMS receives it in writing before anything begins. Nothing is hidden, and nothing will surprise you afterward.
-
No, and we say that plainly. We are an independent provider. The Self-Determination Program lets families choose providers who are not on the traditional vendor list, and that is how families work with us. Services are arranged through SDP and paid through the client's FMS.
-
Yes, as private clients.
Sam can also walk you through joining the SDP. Our SDRC Guide explains every step.
-
Yes. Continued coaching is a valid Supported Self-Employment goal that can be renewed in the IPP. Sam meets with the family and the coordinator near the end of month six to set it up.
-
"I want to add a goal for Supported Self-Employment to the IPP, and I have found a provider I would like to use called Caliminds Launchpad." That is enough to start. If they want more, send them our For Coordinators page or Sam's phone number.
-
Book a free discovery meeting, in person or on video. There is no pitch and no commitment. You get copy-paste PCP and IPP language, measurable outcomes like a live website and at least one real sale, monthly written progress summaries with the participant's consent, and FMS invoicing after each completed session, so SDP families are not billed directly. This work is commonly funded under 335 Employment Supports, 334 Individual Training and Education, and 339 Prevocational Supports. A code does not guarantee funding. Funding depends on the person's IPP goal, Person-Centered Plan, Individual Budget, and Spending Plan. Confirm with your IF or service coordinator. Based in Poway, serving all of San Diego County. For parents and guardians
-
Every session is one-on-one, in a place your adult chooses, at a pace set by how they are doing that day. If a session needs to be shorter or slower, it is. Sam is autistic himself and understands this from the inside.
-
Yes. That is exactly what the coaching is for. We work through the business side together, session by session, and your adult takes on more as they are ready. They are never handed a task beyond what they can do today.
-
Most job losses are not about ability. They are about a workplace built for a different kind of mind. Here, your adult chooses the schedule, controls the environment, sets the communication style, and works on something they care about. Nobody can fire them for being who they are. That structural difference is the whole point.
-
Yes. Sam has coached students into web development, SEO, and AI service businesses with corporate clients, and he holds certifications in digital marketing, e-commerce, and AI for business. The more capable the student, the further we build.
-
With your adult's consent, you receive a written progress summary every month. You are welcome to join planning sessions and brand reviews. And you can call Sam any time.
-
Some businesses grow. Some stay small. Some change direction. In every case your adult walks away with real skills, real confidence, and real proof they can do more than the job market told them. The only true failure is giving up, and we do everything we can to prevent that.
For the adult
-
Yes. You will never cold-call, attend a networking event, or pretend to be someone you are not. There are real businesses built almost entirely on doing excellent work and having a clear website. Alex signed two corporate clients without a single networking event. We find the model that fits you.
-
Yes. Many students keep a job, a day program, or other supports. Sessions fit around your routine, and the work in between is sized to the time and energy you actually have.
-
Most of our students had never been paid for their work when they started. Every student who has completed the program has sent a real invoice and received a real payment. That first payment changes how you see yourself. It is one of the best days in the whole program.
