Three people sitting at a wooden table outdoors, two women and one man, looking at papers and smiling, with a woman in a teal blazer having a name tag that reads 'SDRC' and a tablet on the table. In the background, a park with trees and several other people walking or standing.

What We Do

Caliminds Launchpad is an independent supported self-employment coaching practice in San Diego County. Sam Fawaz works one-on-one with autistic and neurodivergent adults, particularly those for whom traditional employment and job placement have repeatedly not worked, to build a business around each client's strengths and interests.

The businesses span a wide range, matched to each client's ability level: from home-based shops selling art, crafts, or photography, to professional technical services such as web development, SEO, AI systems, media production, and social media content. One current client secured two corporate contracts before his agency formally opened. The common thread is ownership: the client controls the schedule, the environment, and the work, which is precisely the structure many of your clients have needed and never had.

Caliminds Launchpad is not an SDRC vendor. We are an independent provider chosen by families through the Self-Determination Program and paid through their FMS.

The Program

The Founder's Mentorship is six months, one-on-one, in person.

  • Months 1 and 2, Foundation: business idea, brand, simple legal and financial basics, written plan.

  • Months 3 and 4, Build: website, social presence, content and photography, invoicing and scheduling tools, and the professional skills the specific business requires.

  • Months 5 and 6, Launch: first outreach, first customer, first completed sale, plan for the next stage.

Caliminds Launchpad website rewrite 20 Delivery: two to three in-person sessions per week, two hours each, at client-chosen locations across San Diego County. Text and email support between sessions. Video sessions when travel is not feasible

  • Invoicing, scheduling, and communication tools set up

  • At least one documented customer transaction All outcomes are tracked against a written roadmap created in month one

After Six Months

Nearly every student continues into ongoing coaching. This is capability-building, not dependency: Sam continues to teach the student how to handle more of the business themselves. Some move to occasional check-ins. Some meet regularly for years. Both are successful outcomes.

Continued coaching remains a valid Supported Self-Employment goal. Sam works with you and the family during the final phase to renew or extend the IPP goal so there is no gap and no awkward conversation about what happens next.

Funding and Billing

For SDP clients
1. Add "Supported Self-Employment Coaching" as an IPP goal at the next review, or via interim amendment.
2. Sam prepares a service agreement with the client's FMS.
3. Caliminds Launchpad invoices the FMS after each completed session. No cost to the family and no administrative work for you.
Sam is glad to speak with you, the FMS, and the family before any commitment.

IPP language you are welcome to use
Supported Self-Employment Coaching: individual one-on-one mentorship toward the development and launch of a self-directed micro-business, including business planning, brand development, digital skills, business registration support, client acquisition, and ongoing capability-building.

For renewals covering the post-program phase
Continued Supported Self-Employment Coaching: ongoing one-on-one capability-building support for an established self-employed neurodivergent founder, focused on growing independence as a business owner through real-world problem-solving, skill development, and strategic planning.

For clients not in the SDP
We are working toward broader SDRC vendorization. If you have a client who would benefit and is not in the SDP, contact Sam directly and he will help identify the most direct available pathway.

Communication and Reporting

  • Monthly written progress summaries, with client consent, in plain language you can drop into case notes

  • Same-business-day response by phone, text, or email

  • Collaborative goal adjustment whenever a student's needs change If you need something from providers that is not listed here, ask. We adapt to your documentation rhythm.

A Direct Message From Sam

I have real respect for the work you do. You are navigating an enormously complex system while holding genuine responsibility for the outcomes of the people you serve — and you are doing it for many clients at once. My goal is to make working with Caliminds Launchpad one of the easiest, most transparent, and most reliable provider relationships you have.
If you are considering whether to refer a client to us, or if you simply want to learn more about what we do before making any decision, I am genuinely happy to have that conversation. A short phone or video call is often the best way to figure out together whether a specific client is a good fit.
